- To begin, you’re going to install the MetaMask extension for your browser. Go to metamask.io/download/ and press the button to download MetaMask for your particular browser. After it has downloaded, you can install the extension onto your browser and then pin the extension so you can access it easily. Next, click on the icon for the extension and select the option to create a new wallet.
A brief but very essential heads-up regarding using MetaMask with your Ledger device:
Never import your Ledger’s 24-word recovery phrase into MetaMask. If you select the “Import an existing wallet” mode and do so, you’re basically converting your secure, offline Ledger into an insecure, online hot wallet. That completely negates the purpose of having a hardware wallet and jeopardizes your funds. Similarly, do not copy over a recovery phrase provided to you by MetaMask to your Ledger device. MetaMask phrases are created online and aren’t secure for cold storage.
Once you have that clear, you can accept the terms, enter a password, and then click Create a new wallet.
